The Arctic Tour Guide Course is an intensive, hands-on training program designed to prepare new guides for real-world work in the Lapland tourism industry. Over 14 days, participants receive professional training in customer service, safety, nature guiding, cultural knowledge, equipment use, logistics, booking systems, and Northern Lights expertise, combined with field visits to the most iconic destinations in Finnish Lapland.
This course blends classroom workshops, outdoor excursions, practical assessments, and industry-standard training, preparing you to guide guests confidently in Arctic conditions.

Day 1 – Orientation & Introduction to Lapland Guiding

- Equipment introduction & bag preparation
Day 2 – Sauna Culture & Arctic Environments
- Finnish sauna tradition & guest safety
- Frozen Lake introduction: ice safety, photography points
- Vaattunkiköngäs field practice
- Winter clothing collection & fitting
Day 3 – Wilderness Safety & Canyon Guiding
- Wilderness safety, route planning & communication
- Training in canyon guiding at Korouoma or Autti Laavu
- Firemaking, snack break procedures & customer experience building
Day 4 – Arctic Animals & Tour Operations Workshops
- Reindeer farm visit: cultural & educational guiding techniques

Day 9 – Riisitunturi National Park
- National Park guiding: nature interpretation & route leadership
- Snowshoe introduction
Day 10 – Partner Companies & Operational Procedures

- Car orientation with Fleet & Safety manager: vehicle checks, safety, parking procedures
- Booking and Operation Procedures: Guide App training
Day 11 – Museum & Cultural Knowledge Day
- Arctic history, indigenous culture, and natural sciences
- How to turn cultural knowledge into meaningful guest experiences
- Driving Evaluation from certified driving instructor
Day 12 – Written Exam

- Minimum age: 18
- Good physical condition (fit for light to moderate hiking daily)
- English communication skills
- Valid driver’s license is mandatory, with experience in driving both automatic and manual transmission
