Climb to the top of Ounasvaara mountain, the highest point above Rovaniemi, an easy 15 minute hike on forest trails! Arktikum “Arctic Museum” has a wonderful record of natural and political history from ice age and glacial periods to the present day.There are 3 large exhibitions including arctic animals and the indigenous peoples, Sami, who first set foot in Lapland. There is also fantastic information and displays of the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis Next up, get your blood pumping on a fast-paced husky sled ride! These fun-loving dogs are very friendly and talkative.Not far away are the reindeers who will also take you for a more relaxing sleigh ride. This is one the traditional methods of travel for the Sami people, Lapland’s aboriginal people. Coffee/tea and local handmade cookies are also on offer The Arctic Snowmobile Museum is in legacy of the only snowmobile factory in Europe, featuring a 3D video exhibition and children’s activities like hand-painted skis. Learn the history and increasing importance of the snowmobile in the arctic region Visit the Santa Claus Village and get a special certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle line. This fairy-tale village has plenty of shopping, the official Santa Claus post-office, and of course, the king of Christmas himself, Santa Claus!
